Sharing the Awesome Author – Tara Taylor Quinn

My life is filled with love and laughter thanks to the amazing people I get to hang out with. As well as being awesome, they’re creative, talented, generous, and fun! I thought you might like to meet some of the authors I know, so I’ve asked them to come and give us a behind-the-scenes look at what they’re passionate about. I have to warn you though – creativity is contagious!

Today’s guest author is Harlequin Superromance author Tara Taylor Quinn. She’s written over 80 novels – wow!!  She’s a USA TODAY bestselling author with more than seven million copies sold (the mind boggles!). She is known for delivering intense, emotional fiction. Tara is a past president of Romance Writers of America. She has also appeared on TV across the country, including CBS Sunday Morning.

Tara, what genre do you write? T: I write romance, romantic suspense, and women’s fiction.

Besides writing, what are you passionate about? T: I support the National Domestic Violence Hotline. If you or someone you know might be a victim of domestic violence in the United States, please contact 1-800-799-7233. For a list of resources in Canada click HERE

It sounds like your latest release, Her Secret Life, addresses domestic violence – a conversation that never needs to stop. Do you have any advice for aspiring writers? T: Write. Don’t judge. Don’t validate. Don’t defend. Just write. Everything else will come in its time, but the first step is the most vital. And that’s to just write.

Great advice! I found it really helpful to have 2 or 3 stories ready to go when a publisher accepted a manuscript. What song would be your theme song? T: Silence and I by Alan Parsons Project

Sounds like me and writing too :D. What would you pick as a superpower? T: Telepathy – I would love to be able to send messages to my loved ones and to receive them as well. I actually fully believe this is possible if we are able to quiet our minds and go into deep enough focus.

Love it. What’s your favourite dessert? T: Striped Delight – an old family recipe with a graham cracker based crust, chocolate pudding based center, and a whipped cream based top layer.

Sounds delicious! Thank you very much for stopping by, Tara Taylor Quinn! It’s been an honour and a pleasure 😀

“Uh-huh. Yes.”

Mike Valentine listened unabashedly to the half he could hear of his lunch companion’s phone conversation the first Monday in March.

“I know. Mmm-hmm.” Her tone was more flirty than not. Glancing at Mike, Kacey rolled her eyes. And then mouthed, Bo.

A guy she’d been talking to in LA for the several months. She said she wasn’t in love with him, but she liked him a lot. He fit her life in the city. She’d never, ever bring Bo to Santa Raquel, which was where Mike lived, and where he and Kacey volunteered at a local domestic violence shelter, The Lemonade Stand. Bo was part of her Beverly Hills life. And, Mike assumed, her sexual partner.

A subject that had nothing to do with Mike.

“Okay, tomorrow night. But only if it’s just a few of us. I meant it when I told you I don’t want to go clubbing.”

While she listened, she ate a French fry. Or as much of one as she’d allow herself. Just the tip. Off Mike’s plate.

She fell for the wrong guys. It didn’t take a genius to figure that one out. Besides, she’d told him so herself.

“No, I’m not going to change my mind…” Her tone of voice changed from playful to deadly serious.

While she couldn’t seem to control her propensity to date the wrong types, she was determined to make serious changes to her life and had already.

Like the drinking. She still did it. Socially. She might have been teetering on being a drunk, but she wasn’t an alcoholic. Her body didn’t have a chemical dependency on the stuff. And she hadn’t been drunk in ten months, not since she’d made up her mind to change her life. He knew…because she’d told him.

“I do want to be with you! It’s the clubbing I don’t want.” She was smiling now—not at Mike. She’d never smiled at Mike that way.

For which he was utterly thankful. That smile…it was the one reserved for the disposable men in Kacey’s life. The ones who were part of the soap opera star’s Hollywood life.

He’d take friendship with her any day. Getting her inside scoop was a whole different kind of intimacy. A more lasting one.

Perfectly Together ~ Perfectly Series, Book 6

Newly graduated naturopathic doctor Jayden Locke has a dream – start a practice in small-town Emerson and never move again. She’s found the perfect office building to buy. It passes an inspection, design plans are drawn up, and the bank okays the loan. Only one problem.

Dr. Cole Cameron scoops it before she has a chance to submit an offer. What?

It’s a good investment. Cole isn’t interested in settling down. He works three jobs in three different towns and would just as soon keep moving. But something about Jayden’s defiant eyes and sexy smile makes him pause and reconsider.

What are the chances that a heart filled with wanderlust and a soul longing for a home fit Perfectly Together?

Perfectly Together by Linda O’Connor on Wednesday Writers

Catherine Castle

perfectlytogether3_850Today on Wednesday Writers I have guest author Linda O’Connor who will be talking about her latest contemporary romantic comedy, Perfectly Together, book number 6 in the Perfectly series. She also has an excerpt for your reading pleasure. Linda, tell us about one of the challenges of writing this book, aside from solving the problem of the heroine putting down roots and the hero reaching for the sky, as your hook says.

Thanks, Catherine,

I’m very excited to release Book 6 in the Perfectly series, Perfectly Together. I wrote Perfectly Together as the final book in the series. But I also said that after the third book, haha, so we’ll see if it sticks. I really enjoyed writing this book because I had a number of characters from the other books “pop” in. The challenge was to do that without making it contrived. Eight of the twelve main characters…

Perfectly Together Fun Fact #3

The release day for Perfectly Together has been set for February 14!! It will be a Valentine’s treat. 😀

In the meantime, I thought I’d share some Perfectly Together fun facts.

Having a cover designed is one of the best parts of the publishing process. It’s when the vision of my book and characters really come alive. I thought I’d share the evolution of the covers. The design on the left was the first iteration by graphic designer Rae Monet, and the design on the right is the final. I thought the red font of the title was too busy, and I asked if the background behind the couple could be white to match the other books in the series. It’s a little plainer but I like the simplicity. I thought the chalet vector in the lower left captured the essence of the building that Jayden loves. The two hearts with stethoscopes represent the two doctors in the story.

The e-version of the book only shows a front cover, but I also get print copies so I need a back cover as well. The original design of the back cover featured the Home Sweet Home sentiment which fit the story, but was a little too homey. Graphic designer Karen Duvall found 2 other cool graphics – one of a set of skis and the other, a ski hill. The ski hill was my vision of the panoramic view Jayden has when she looks out her window. And it’s blue so it matches the Interlock Publishing logo!

Decisions made – the covers are at the printer and I should have print copies in a couple of weeks. Very exciting!

Perfectly Together Fun Fact #2

The release day for Perfectly Together has been set for February 14!! It will be a Valentine’s treat. 😀

In the meantime, I thought I’d share some Perfectly Together fun facts.

Perfectly Together, book 6 in the Perfectly Series, is the first book in the series to occur after Perfectly Honest, book 1. Books 2 and 3 occur before and Books 4 and 5 take place around the same time as Perfectly Honest. Perfectly Together happens 2 years after Mikaela and Sam meet in Book 1. And fittingly, Jayden settles in Emerson – full circle. 😀

The weight of disappointment settled on her shoulders and an ache filled her chest. Her dream tumbled like a collapsing house of cards. She couldn’t bear it, and turned to go.

“Wait, maybe we could work something out.”

She looked back.

His eyes lit up and the green flecks glowed. “I planned on renting it out. We can renovate the interior to suit. Sounds like it would work out perfectly.”

For you, maybe. She longed to own. The thought of renting, of living at the whim of someone else, made her stomach twist in knots. She couldn’t do it. She wanted stability and needed permanency.

She blinked back tears. It had been so close.

“You’re thinking of a clinic? Are you a doctor?” he asked.

“I’m a naturopath – a doctor of naturopathy.”

Cole’s eyes widened and he smirked. “A naturopath? Interesting. What exactly do you do? Hand out herbs? Read a crystal ball?” He grinned. “Voodoo?”

Jayden put her hands on her hips. “Naturopaths follow the same curriculum as medical doctors and then get additional training in natural medicine,” she said stiffly.

He held up his hands. “Sounds very . . . important.”

She narrowed her eyes. Was he mocking her? “I don’t think renting would work. I was really looking to buy.” She couldn’t keep the disappointment from her voice. “Good luck to you, though.” She glanced around one last time and walked to the front door.

A hand on her arm stopped her. “Take my card,” Cole said, offering it to her. “Think about it. If you change your mind, give me a call. I’m hoping to get underway in the next couple of weeks.” He tilted his head, the green flecks twinkling. “You know, you don’t look like a naturopath.”

Pft. She rolled her eyes. Should she even bother taking his card? She glanced at the open expanse out the window, the sunlight streaming in, and the view of the mountain.

Would it be worth it? Her dream property, at what cost?

He raised his eyebrows, and her heart stumbled at the interest in his dark blue eyes, the green specks mocking her with a dare.

She plucked the card out of his hand. Hopefully it had a picture on it. It might be a useful target for dart practice.
